Manifestations

A Multifaith International Journal of Writing Across the Sacred Traditions

The act of manifesting. The state of being manifested. An indication of the existence, reality, or presence of something. One of the forms in which someone or something, such as a person, a divine being, or an idea, is revealed. The materialized form of a spirit. A public demonstration. A multi-dimensional literary journal produced by members of the Creation Spirituality Communities.

Creation Spirituality and Manifestations Journal

Creation Spirituality seeks the reawakening of mysticism in our time and engages in protecting the planet by educating and spiritually supporting people who care about the Earth and its beings, as well as those scientists, teachers, artists, and activists who are doing the direct work.

As Rev. Roxanne WhiteLight says Creation Spirituality is a great river fed by three streams:  indigenous wisdom, contemporary science, and the ancient mystic teachings of the great spiritual traditions. The Rev. Matthew Fox has spent a lifetime educating people and institutions, gathering people together, and applying this ancestral wisdom to meet the needs of the planet and its people today.

From the beginning of time, four qualities have characterized these different streams. These qualities are the essence of Creation Spirituality.

  1. The capacity to experience in a living universe awe, wonder, joy, gratitude, and light.
  2. The capacity in not-knowing darkness to give way into trust, to release the ego’s need to control, to experience within a naked intent toward love and truth.
  3. The creative capacity to hold the inner and outer paradoxes, the opposites; the light and the dark, weaving them into new vital expressions.
  4. The ability to be embraced by and to embrace transformation.

These four paths encompass the nature of our relationship to ourself, to others, to Earth, the Cosmos, and to all beings. These paths which our ancestors have also traveled, contain within them the initiatory experiences, the dynamic expressions of spiritual life that intrigue the editors of Manifestations Art and Literary Journal. Those soulful experiences of union and separation, of holding the paradoxes of light and darkness, of knowing and not knowing, of creation and destruction, of immanence and transcendence, and the experience of transformation are the subjects of this literary journal.

The Mission of Manifestations Journal.

In a world so divided by vested interests of power and control, ideologies, “isms” of every kind, projections on the other, Manifestations Journal seeks, beneath the apparent divisions, the unifying voice that hums in the timbre of the great cross-cultural wisdom traditions. We encourage authentic voices that inspire, enthrall and confront. To chant is to evoke Spirit, to call forth awe, wonder and praise. It is the sacred work when the word summons the unity and compassion at the core of relationship. In a diversity of voices, in the call and response of separation and unity, may we find we are one.

Community

The Manifestations Community is a broadly multifaith multicultural motley crew united in the common spiritual imperative to serve our brothers and sisters, sharing our lives in compassionate awareness through art, direct action, mentorship, and spiritual practice. It’s a wild world we live in now and it demands a wildness of Spirit that the great traditions have always called us to. By creating together and supporting one another we mirror the Unity that sustains and pervades existence.
